Drunken Snail Trails
Join Judy Farrugia for a double dip at new techniques. Here are Judy’s words on this year’s project:
“This technique was initially taught to me by Ricky Timms. I had so much fun that I experimented a lot with the technique and soon realised the variations are many.
Blocks created are intentionally not quite perfect. This is a great introduction to improvisational piecing as well as a great learning method for understanding colour and value. To top it all off, it is great fun as each block becomes unpredictable. I have never found it boring to sew lots and lots of these blocks and the resultant quilts are always interesting to look at.
As part of the workshop I will show you my method of inserting strips into blocks (as seen below in the ‘Diamonds in the Rough’ quilt). These blocks make a great transition block within any quilt where you want a little extra interest to your featured pieced blocks.

As an extra bonus, both techniques are a great way to make a dent in your fabric scraps.”
