From Your Volunteer Organisers....
Started by locals for locals in a year of drought and not much to look forward to, the award-winning Gunning Patchwork Weekend is now a well-loved, well-established tradition and a key event in the community calendar.
For the first 18 years, GPW was a lean operation, operating without grants, sponsorship or extraneous fundraising. It was organised and run by a very small dedicated team of volunteers who worked incredibly hard to host an event with a 'wonderful atmosphere', 'great food', 'friendship and sharing' and 'value for money'. Each year attendees made suggestions, identified improvements and whenever possible, these were taken on board and the event grew beyond everyone's wildest expectations.
Following the cancellation of GPW2020, the team sought a way to cement the future of this signature event and sought the support of Creative Gunning Inc. With more synergy than either group initially dared to imagine, Creative Gunning Inc provides support, assistance and direction into the future, while maintaining the independence and unique GPW brand.
The 2021 event was the first under the new arrangements and took everyone back to basics with a simple focus on friendship and sharing. This was so the new Committee could learn and because of the COVID operating requirements in place at the time.
In 2023, GPW celebrated 21 years! The hard work of the original committee was celebrated with a dinner and birthday cake. There were lots of swapped stories and reflections on years past.
The GPW sub-committee invites you to join with us to continue to sew, share, renew old acquaintances or make some new friends. Help us celebrate 22 years of this truly unique event and join with us to continue to make this a 'can't miss' event.
